Broken down on the road: the right safety reflexes

Your life is worth more than the vehicle. Before the garage, the flatbed or the insurer: signal, protect yourself, call the right number according to the type of road.

Car stopped on a mountain motorway hard shoulder with hazard lights — SOS procedure, SkyRoute Auto

Published · Updated

As soon as you stop

Hazard lights. If you can still roll a few metres without worsening the damage, reach a refuge (lay-by, car park, exit) rather than the middle of the lane. On the motorway: hard shoulder, as far right as possible.

High-vis vest on before you set a foot outside — including at night in an Annemasse car park. Warning triangle: off the motorway, at a sufficient distance (often ~30 m) if it is safe to place it. Never stand between the bodywork and the traffic flow.

Motorway and expressway (A40, A41, dual carriageways)

Passengers out, behind the crash barrier if there is one. Orange SOS phone or 112: that is the approved evacuation, not a private recovery operator first. SkyRoute Auto takes the next step (repatriation, Genevois or Swiss garage). Detail: /procedure-autoroute/ and the A40 / A41 breakdown guide.

Town, A-road, snow, car park

In built-up areas ( Annemasse , Gaillard , border Geneva ): 06 82 96 40 84. Describe street, direction, car park, floor, height. Snow or ice: do not stop across a descent; photos of the carriageway.

Do not open the bonnet in smoke. Do not accept amateur cable towing on the road. Keep your licence and registration document to hand for the call-out.

How to use this guide

Your life is worth more than the vehicle. Before the garage, the flatbed or the insurer: signal, protect yourself, call the right number according to the type of road. This guide complements our service, breakdown and area pages. SkyRoute Auto remains your local Annemasse provider (74 bis Route d’Étrembières, 74100 Annemasse , France), reachable on ⁦06 82 96 40 84⁩.

After reading: make safe, note the exact location, vehicle and destination, then call or request a quote online. On the motorway, the SOS / 112 procedure comes first. Indicative rates and towns covered (within 110 km) are on the site.

Who attends, and from where

SkyRoute Auto is an independent breakdown, towing and transport provider, based at 74 bis Route d’Étrembières, 74100 Annemasse , France. For broken down on the road: the right safety reflexes, the call comes through on a local number (⁦06 82 96 40 84⁩): not a national switchboard promising “20 minutes anywhere in France”. The slot we give depends on traffic, weather, access (surface, underground, snow) and the distance from Annemasse .

We remain outside insurers’ official networks. You can appoint us for broken down on the road: the right safety reflexes, obtain an invoice, then submit the file to your roadside assistance: any reimbursement depends solely on your policy. Keep the case number if one already exists.

On a motorway or expressway, the initial recovery remains the approved circuit (SOS phone or 112, dispatch may be via sos-auto-moto.fr). SkyRoute Auto then handles repatriation or transport to a garage, home or Switzerland — see our motorway procedure . In town, a car park or a residence, you call us directly.

What we need for a useful quote

To handle broken down on the road: the right safety reflexes without a second trip: exact address (street, car park, floor, badge / intercom), make and model, manual or automatic gearbox, whether the vehicle still rolls, the destination you want, photos of the access and of the vehicle. Mention a high-voltage pack (hybrid / electric), a motorcycle, a van or a prestige car: the equipment is not the same.

Hours: 24/7 subject to availability, including weekends and bank holidays. Life-threatening emergency or a blocked carriageway: prefer a phone call. Planned transport: online quote . Base rates inc. VAT (daytime, straightforward access, Genevois): car breakdown recovery 99 € – 139 €, car towing 169 € – 209 € — more distant communes, Switzerland, night work and difficult access are surcharged; see our pricing page.
