What is motor roadside assistance? #

A simple definition #

Motor roadside assistance is an emergency service: locate the vehicle, make it safe, attempt on-site recovery, then tow to a garage, home or depot if the vehicle can no longer be driven. It may be a benefit of an insurance policy, a club membership, or a job paid to a local provider such as SkyRoute Auto.

In Annemasse and the Genevois, a common confusion is to believe that “having assistance” forbids you from calling an independent recovery operator. You remain free to appoint SkyRoute Auto, then submit the invoice to your insurer according to your policy.

Three ways to be assisted #

Cover included in motor insurance: often with a mileage excess (for example 0 km or 50 km from home), a cap, and exclusions (servicing, fuel, keys). Read the policy schedule before you need it.

How it works in practice #

Modern assistance also covers EVs (flatbed, high voltage) and difficult access. This is not “20 minutes anywhere in France”: we are a local sole trader; the slot depends on traffic and weather.
